Willowvale man who murdered his mother remanded in custody

A 31-year-old Willowvale man, Kwanele Kofayo, briefly appeared before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday facing a charge of murder after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death over the weekend.

"He was not asked to plead as his case was remanded to Thursday 19 January 2017 for further investigation," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He was remanded in custody.

"The deceased, who is the accused’s mother was identified as Ntombizanele Kofayo (64)."

The incident happened at Nkelekethe Village, in Willowvale on Sunday.

According to Captain Manatha, the 64-year-old woman is believed to have died immediatley after the stabbing.

The motive of the murder was yet to be confirmed at the time of publishing.

Captain Manatha said that it is further alleged that the suspect went to a local tavern after the murder.

"He told the people at the tavern that he had killed his mother. The people went to his home where they found the deceased already dead,” he said.
