PE gangsters expected in court over shooting, two still on the run

Two suspects, aged 21 and 26 years old, are expected in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Thursday after were arrested by the Visible Gang Intervention Team on Tuesday night for an alleged shooting incident, which took place earlier in the day in Arcadia, Bethelsdorp, in Port Elizabeth.

"It is alleged that on Tuesday, at about 09:45, the complainant (46 years) and his passenger (33) were driving in Rensburg Street, Arcadia.

"As they drove over a speed hump, they noticed four men in front of them with firearms in their hands," said police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"The men started shooting at the complainant. The complainant and his passenger got out of the car and ran away.

"Several gunshots were fired into the vehicle. No one was injured."

The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating a case of attempted murder.

Colonel Naidu said that the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, however the incident is gang related.

Two suspects are still outstanding.

The arrested suspects face a charge of attempted murder.
