Port Elizabeth firefighters battle fires in Lorraine

A veld fire broke out behind the Smallville complex in Lorraine, Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday afternoon.

At the time of publishing, the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.

Firefighters from KwaZakhele were dispatched to take on the blaze.

Speaking to your correspondent, one firefighter, who did not wish to be named, said that they were not sure at the time when the fire broke out, but his duty crew had received the call-out at around 4:30pm.

He said that this was their third veld fire of the day, along with three other house fires that they battled in the same area.

By around 6pm, the firefighters had managed to contain the flames and briefly left the scene to refill their truck before returning to completely put out the flames.
