EC Visually Impaired 400m runner claims bronze against sighted athletes, prepares for National colours

Eastern Cape Academy of Sport 400-metre runner, Jaco Smit, a classified T12 Visually Impaired athlete is currently in preparation for the 2017 National Disability Championships held in Port Elizabeth from the 1st to the 4th of April 2017.

Remarkably, Smit recently claimed bronze at the EC Track and Field Championships at the Westbourne Oval in PE between the 3rd and 4th of March against able-bodied (sighted) athletes, thus prospecting him well for the disability championship in two weeks’ time.

Smit’s third-placed time was 52.20 seconds in the 400m long-range sprint and in 2017 alone; he ran two qualifying times in the 400m event, with his sights set to now repeat this succession at the National Disability showpiece.

If he runs a successfully qualified time at the National event, Smit will position himself for selection to the World Parra Athletic’s Championship held in London from the 14th to the 23rd of July 2017.
