155 suspects arrested in Uitenhage weekend anti-crime operations

Police officers in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested a total of 155 suspects over the past weekend, during crime prevention operations, that were conducted from Friday until Monday morning.

"Arrests made varied from housebreaking and theft, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, etc," described police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart. 

"74 Traffic fines with a total value of R37 000 were issued and 10 suspects were detained for driving under the influence of liquor.  26 Fines were issued for other liquor related crimes."

Lt Swart said that the South African Police Service is appealing to the community to work with them to combat crime, by providing valuable information about crime, so that perpetrators can be traced, apprehended and be brought to book.
