A teenager from Ngqamakhwe is due to appear before the town’s Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested by local police on Saturday for the murder of an 18-year-old boy at Qolweni Location, in Ngcisininde Village, Ngqamakhwe.

It is alleged that a group of boys was coming from a traditional ceremony of boys, umtshotsho, when a quarrel between the deceased and suspect arose.

“The suspect is alleged to have drawn his knife and fatally stabbed the deceased. The deceased suffered upper body injuries [which led to his death],” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the suspect was arrested and charged with murder.

Since he is a minor, he has since been handed over to his parents for parental custody.

“The deceased cannot be identified until his next of kin are informed of his death,” said Captain Manatha.

The suspect will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on Monday facing a charge of murder.
