171 suspects nabbed in Uitenhage weekend anti-crime operations

Police officers in the Uitenhage SAPS Cluster arrested a total of 171 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend. The operations were conducted from Friday until 06:00 on Monday morning. 

"A total of 42 traffic fines were issued, valued at R21 000 and arrests made varied from housebreaking and theft, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, four arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor," said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart. 

"A total of 72 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. 31 persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession." 

Lt Swart said police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue with their actions to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster. 

"The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property."
