20 year-old Butterworth man slapped with 30-year jail term for raping two minors

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday convicted and sentenced 20 year-old Siphamadla Mbiko to 30 years behind bars for raping two girls, aged 8 and 9 years old, in  December 2014 at Eugene Informal Settlement, Butterworth.

According to Butterworth police, both children knew the convicted as they were staying together at the informal settlement.

“It is alleged that the victims requested each R2 from the convicted and he instructed them to follow him to his home, he locked the door and raped both of them,” said police spokesperson, Captain Manatha.

A case of rape was opened at the Butterworth police station and Mbiko was later arrested and charged with rape.

He was sentenced to undergo 15 years imprisonment on each sentence. Both sentences will run concurrently.

In an unrelated incident, Dutywa police arrested two men, aged 32 and 44 years old, on Thursday morning, at about 08:45, after they robbed a local trading store in the town’s CBD.

According to Dutywa police, two unlicensed firearms were recovered from both suspects. A 7.65 pistol with four rounds of ammunition was recovered from one suspect while 9mm Star pistol with six rounds of ammunition was recovered from the other.

“The firearms will be sent for ballistic test to establish if they were not used in the commission of crime around Dutywa,” said Captain Manatha.

He added that police also recovered undisclosed amount of money from the suspects.

The suspects will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Friday on charges of business robbery, possession of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition.
