20 year-old East London rapist jailed for attack on 10 year-old boy

The  Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Mdantsane, Lieutenant-Colonel Patricia Maqhubela, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 20 year-old Wandisile Kapi of Scenery Park, East London, for raping a ten year-old boy in October 2015.

According to Eastern Cape police, the Kapi allegedly enticed the young boy with sweets before raping him near a local tavern at Scenery Park.

"A rape case was opened at the Scenery Park  police  station  and an arrest was made by the police after an investigating officer from the (FCS) unit conducted an extensive investigation.

"The  suspect was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for rape by the East  London Regional Court on Tuesday.

Lt Colonel Maqhubela congratulated the detective for securing this sentence at a time when the South African Police Service is up in arms fighting gender-based crimes throughout the country.

She also applauded the investigating officer for his excellent investigation skills that managed to secure a successful conviction.

“Sergeant Luhadi is one of the hard working members in my team of investigators, I am happy with her achievement,” added Lt Colonel Maqhubela.
