20-year-old Ngqamakhwe man slapped with 25 years’ imprisonment for 2012 rape

The Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced 20-year-old, Matenzandile Gxulu, to serve 25 years behind bars for raping a 15-year-old girl in November 2012, at Tyinirha Village, Ngqamakhwe.

According to the police, the accused accosted the 15-year-old girl at Tyinirha Village, on the 11th of November 2012, at about 16:00, and subsequently raped her.

“A rape case was opened at the Ngqamakhwe Police Station, and was investigated by the Butterworth FCS Unit, which managed to trace and arrested the accused,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the Butterworth Cluster acting commander, Colonel Sipho Hokwana, welcomed the sentence and praised the investigating officer.

Colonel Hokwana further warned other would-be perpetrators that police in his cluster will not tolerate the abuse of women and children.
