255 suspects arrested in Uitenhage weekend anti-crime blitz

Police officers in the Uitenhage SAPS Cluster on Monday announced that they have arrested a total of 255 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend. The operations were conducted from Friday until 06:00 on Monday morning. 

"A total of 89 traffic fines were issued and arrests were made from varied crimes - from murder, robbery, theft, illegal possession of drugs, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm; eight arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor," the police said.

"A total of 122 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. 

"Two suspects were arrested with suspected stolen goods in their possession.  Twenty-eight persons were also arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession."

The police said that they will continue to host crime prevention operations and address crime effectively in their area. 

"The South African Police Service appeals to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of stolen property."
