26 year-old East London man arrested for attempted armed business robbery

Police in East London arrested a 26 year-old man following an attempted armed robbery at a clothing store at Hemingway’s Mall, East London, on Monday morning.

It is alleged that two suspects entered the store and held the staff at gunpoint and then forced them to the back room where they tied them.

“They didn’t manage to get anything from the store as they were disturbed by the mall security,” said police spokesperson,” Captain Mluleki Mbi.

He added that the suspect was arrested through the assistance of Constable Vusani of Mdantsane SAPS, who was at the mall at that time, while the other suspect left the store and fled in an unknown direction.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition.

A case of attempted armed robbery was opened and police are now following up on leads to catch the second suspect.
