Willowvale police have announced that they made a breakthrough and arrested a 27 year-old man on Thursday, in connection with the killing of three people and set their home on fire on Tuesday morning at Matolweni Locality, in Nqadu Village, Willowvale.

According to police, the suspect was traced and arrested at Taleni Location, Ntlabane Village, Willowvale.

A 70 year-old granny and her two grandchildren, aged 9 and 11 years-old, were initially reported as having died in a fire accident, but police discovered they had actually been beaten to death before their house was set alight.

“The neighbours saw flames coming out of the house and they tried to enter the premises, but the gate was locked. They later managed to open it,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

However, a fourth victim, told police of how she survived a brutal attack after being abducted and raped elsewhere by the unidentified assailant.

Police believe the assailant also broke into the house where he attacked the elderly woman and the children.

The suspect will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate Court on Monday facing charges of arson, three charges of murder and a charge of raping the 32-year-old woman.
