32 year-old Shauderville man expected in court on drug charges

A 32 year-old Shauderville man is expected in the Gelvandale Magistrate's Court on Monday after was arrested for drug possession at his house in an early Friday morning raid by members of the crime intervention units deployed in the Northern Areas of  Port Elizabeth.

"Police received an anonymous tip-off and immediately reacted. Rock cocaine, tik, tranquilisers and a substantial amount of cash was found in the Highfield Road house," said police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"The suspect is detained for dealing in drugs."

On that same day, police effected the following arrests and confiscations in Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp areas:

  • Arrests: 5 (illegal possession of state property, possession of unlicenced firearm and drugs, possession of suspected stolen property and drugs, robbery and dealing and possession of drugs)
  • Confiscations: bullet proof vest, 7.65 pistol and 8 rounds of ammunition, 11 mandrax tablets, 75 rolls of dagga, tik pipes, laptop, chainsaw, 2 plastic bags of loose dagga, 8 knives, 1x9mm round.

"Since the launch of Operation Lockdown, the communities have volunteered vital information to the police and many arrests were executed  as a result of the positive information provided," said Colonel Naidu.
