AUGUST 19, 2016

A 33 year-old Butterworth man, Mendo Kalimashe, was on Thursday sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the Tsomo Regional Court after he was found guilty of raping a 21 year-old woman in 2012.

"The rape was committed on 16 November 2012 during the day at Sokapase Village, Ngqamakhwe," Eastern Cape police said.

"The victim was alone when the accused arrived.

"He proposed and his proposal was rejected. He then accosted the victim and raped her."

A case of rape was opened at Ngqamakhwe Police Station.

The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) later managed to tracing and arrest Kalimashe.
