Ngqamakhwe police on Tuesday arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl at Mecca Location, Mpukane Village, Ngqamakhwe, between the 16th and the 24th of November.

It is alleged that the victim and her sisters used to watch television during the evening at the home of the suspect.

“The suspect is believed to have raped the girl when she went alone to the homestead of the suspect,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the victim was threatened by the suspect not to inform anyone as he would kill her.

However, the grandmother of the victim noticed that the victim was raped.

“The grandmother asked the victim about the perpetrator and she broke the silence and implicated the suspect,” said Captain Manatha.

The suspect will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
