Police in Dutywa have launched an investigation after a 55-year-old woman was shot dead in her home at Gwadana Village, in Dutywa, by men pretending to be police officers in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to the police, the deceased was asleep with her two grandchildren, aged between 9 and 14 years-old, when the incident occurred.

“The deceased heard a knock and when she asked, who the person was, the response was that it was the police.

“She woke up and [when she opened the door] she was shot on her upper body,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the woman died instantly.

Police have since appealed to local residents, who might have knowledge of the suspects, to come forward and assist in their investigation, as no one has been arrested yet.

“Anyone with information is requested to contact Dutywa Police at 047 498 1333 or Crime Stop 08600 10111,” said Captain Manatha.
