A Chery with Swag

Just over a year after its local introduction, Chinese automaker Chery has launched a limited edition version of its J2 compact hatchback, known as the Swag.

Slotting in above the previous range topping J2 TX, the Swag mainly adds a number of cosmetic and visual tweaks, namely model specific ten-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, chromed tipped exhaust, Swag decals on the bootlid and at the base of the rear doors, full leather interior, touchscreen satellite navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming and a six-speaker sound system with MP3 and USB capability.

Additional standard kit includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, follow-me-home headlights, electric windows all around and air-conditioning.

Up front, the Swag remains mechanically unchanged from the TX with power still coming from a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 72 kW and 140 N.m of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox sends the grunt to the front wheels, with Chery claiming a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.4 L/100 km.

A five year / 120 000 km warranty and two year / 30 000 km service plan is included in the J2 Swag’s R154 900 asking price.
