A LIP-SMACKING LUNCH: Cobblestone Bakery’s delectable pizza’s and pastries
As an incentive for our sales team I recently ran a ‘come-lunch-with-me’ competition – the prize being a meal on me at Cobblestone Bakery, situated on 6th Ave, in Walmer, Port Elizabeth.
This was also going to be an opportunity to sample the fare of Cobblestone Bakery which is now under new management. It was a lovely warm autumn afternoon that I took Claudette, the winner in the competition, to this well-known bakery.
As we entered Cobblestone, I immediately fell in love with its fresh and updated décor. What was once a very ‘industrial’ feel had been transformed into a warm welcoming setting. The walls have been changed from a cool grey to a candy-stripe of blue, purple and charice pink. Complemented by Persian rugs and wood furnishings, Cobblestone is now just charmingly chic!
We opted to sit beside an open window to allow the sun to stream in on us while we ate. Browsing through the Cobblestone menu, I noticed so many tempting meals and treats - chicken curry, toasted sandwiches, hamburgers, home-made quiche, bagels, just to name a few.
After much deliberation, we decided on one of their appetizing gourmet pizzas with chorizo, caramelised onion, rocket and mozzarella as well as a home-made chicken pie with salad. Before we knew it, the food had arrived and we tucked in!
The pizza had a rye base - which we were both ecstatic about, and the toppings just complemented each other so well. The pie filling was so creamy and we could not finish the pies because of their size. We ended with doggie bags to share with the others back at the office!
We wanted to know what else Cobblestone had on offer, so we decided to have dessert. Besides, you cannot visit a bakery and not eat something sweet. Once again, we had to choose from a mouth-watering selection of cupcakes, carrot cake, lemon meringue and of course, magic bars - which is what we chose.
I had never in my life tasted anything so delicious. The magic bars have a crunchy base, topped with caramel, chocolate and nuts to give an absolutely out of this world dessert! I decided to pack up a few to take to the office for afternoon tea.
Cobblestone Bakery is highly recommended for every pastry lover - and don’t forget their magic bar!
