Absolute tranquillity: Experience true ‘lifestyle living’ at Lake Pleasant Living

BY ANNE UDEMANS - APRIL 8, 2015

Tranquillity, in today’s excessively busy, noisy, social and demanding world, is perhaps, the ultimate luxury and very hard to come by. In fact, as a well-known credit card bureau may say, it is priceless, but this is precisely what we found at Lake Pleasant Living.

This magnificent property sits on the shores of the Groenvlei Lake - one of the few natural freshwater lakes in the Southern Hemisphere, and is perfectly described in the name of this hotel.

In my line of work, I am privileged to visit many luxurious properties so it is no small thing when I say that when my husband and I took the Groenvlei turnoff from the N2 and entered the grounds of Lake Pleasant Living it was a magical transition from the world of the crazy to that of Elysium.

From the moment of our arrival to our reluctant departure, we enjoyed fantastic service. The staff clearly enjoy working here and are determined to ensure that your stay is a delightful experience.

The accommodation is luxurious and the free-standing, two-bedroom Duplex Villa in which we stayed was spacious and beautifully appointed.

Besides a fully-equipped modern kitchen, it had an open-plan lounge and dining area with several original artworks, complemented by quality furnishings and finishes as well as other conveniences like a TV with DSTV, a gas fireplace, Wi-Fi access and a built-in gas barbeque on the patio. Outside was a private plunge pool and lock-up garage/carport.

The Villa could easily sleep four adults sharing with two children. Our main bedroom was fitted with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom and its own patio which overlooked the lake, the indigenous forests beyond it and a neatly landscaped garden.

My husband is often away on business and here we enjoyed a romantic candlelit dinner at the hotel’s Bistro on the Lake – what a pleasure.

I found that their comprehensive menu offers a blend of European, Indian and South African dishes including their famous Lamb Shank served with mash and side vegetables, rump steak, cajun chicken dishes, seafood platters, burgers, tapas, beef and lentil soup as well as freshly-baked desserts.  All our meals were delicious.

When not relaxing at the pool or in the lounge we spent our time exploring the local areas many entertainment activities. These include sailing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking or golfing at one of South Africa’s finest golf courses. The less energetic can try their Spa on the Lake.

Prior to our arrival, I wondered why this hotel would use the word “Living” in its title, now I know that it describes life as it should be – tranquil.

I can recommend couples and families to visit Lake Pleasant Living for unforgettable weekends.
