Acting Eskom CEO’s contract renewed as utility threatens more power cuts

Power utility Eskom has warned of a high probability of load shedding for Thursday, due to ongoing maintenance.

The announcement comes after the state-owned parastatal implemented stage one rolling blackouts yesterday morning, which was later increased to stage two from 18h00-22h00.

It has since been reported that Public Enterprises Minister, Lynne Brown, has renewed the contract of the struggling utility’s Acting CEO Brain Molefe for a further three months.

“Minister Brown announced then that this was with the intention to help stabilise Eskom’s leadership. The secondment was also considered in light of Mr Molefe’s extensive understanding of the public sector and the environment in which state-owned companies (SOCs) operate,” Eskom said in a statement.
