Adverse weather causes power outages across Nelson Mandela Bay

JUNE 4, 2015

Large parts of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are without power on Thursday following heavy rain and strong winds, experienced in the Metro since last night. Power lines are believed to have been toppled in some areas.

Affected areas include Thornhill, Matjiesfontein, Fitchets Corner, Gedulsrivie, Govan Mbeki, KwaMagxaki, St Albans, Tembani, Butterfield, Greenbushes, Draaifontein, Alington, Driftsands and Lovemore Park.

On Wednesday, at Brickmakers substation, the Harris breaker tripped affecting areas of Walmer and Humewood. At Summerstrand substation, the Casino breaker tripped affecting the Boardwalk and surrounding areas.

The municipality said in the morning that its technicians were attending to the various faults but it was unable to give timelines.

Supply has been restored to Bethelsdorp, Rensburg-Hillside and Windgovel as well as to Coles avenue (Humewood), Casino K3 (Boardwalk) and surrounds.
