African Drumbeat helps to make Armed Forces Day 2016 memorable

African Drumbeat entertained the thousands of people, who visited the Port Elizabeth Harbor and beachfront for the Armed Forces Week celebrations from the 13th to the 21st of February.

Armed Forces Week is the largest celebratory event on the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) calendar, which saw dozens of aircraft and military vehicles, as well as several ships; being utilised for demonstrations by thousands of soldiers, airmen and sailors.

Throughout two days, African Drumbeat gave the public marimba, traditional dancing and dynamic drumming performances, as well as colourful flag parades.

In a form of engagement, they also gave the public an opportunity to try their hand at marimba and drumming performances.

These performances were particularly welcomed at the long queues - where some people waited up to three hours for their chance to get on board the seven SA Navy ships that were open to public viewing.

This was the largest deployment of SA Navy Vessels away from their home port since the dawn of democracy in South Africa in 1994.
