Four men are expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court after they were busted by local police for possession of unlicenced firearms.

"Members from Uitenhage SAPS were busy patrolling the Kruisrivier business area on Sunday morning, at 08:30, when they spotted four males driving suspiciously around in the area with a red Toyota Tazz," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"Members pulled the vehicle over in Schonland Street, Uitenhage, and searched the vehicle. Members found two unlicensed 9mm firearms and a replica AK47 (plastic) in the vehicle.

"The four males, ages between 31 and 55 years old, were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms."

She added that police also confiscated the Toyota Tazz and handed it in as an exhibit.

"Crime scene experts will establish if there is ammunition in the firearms and additional charges will be added," said Captain Swart.

"They are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, on charges of illegal possession of unlicensed firearms. Additional charges might be added."
