Algoa Bus strike continues on Monday

OCTOBER 19, 2015

On Monday morning again, Port Elizabeth commuters had to find alternative ways of getting to work and school for the new week as the current strike by Algoa Bus services staff continued. Last Wednesday, another attempt at resolving the bus strike failed.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) met with the management at Algoa Bus in the presence of representatives from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) - Eastern Cape.

The parties again reached an impasse - which is how the strike began on 23 September.

The CCMA is, however, reportedly trying to find a way forward to break the deadlock.

Two attempts at resolving the strike two weeks ago did not materialise.

Last Monday, thousands, including school children, also had to find alternative means of getting to work as the new school term resumed.
