Alleged Jayde Panayiotou hitman appears in court bruised

The third suspect, believed to be the actual hitman in the murder of Port Elizabeth teacher Jayde Panayiotou, now identified as Sizwesakhe Vumazonke, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after his arrest on Sunday in New Brighton – with visible bruises on his face.

He was remanded and will appear in court with Jayde’s husband, Christopher, on June 19. Christopher on Monday chose not to apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

Still, the bruises on his Vumazonke’s face did not go unnoticed.

“Bruising on alleged Jayde Panayiotou hitman Vumazonke so bad that magistrate even asked about it. He answered in Afrikaans: it was police,” tweeted eNCA reporter, Karyn Maughan, at the courtroom.

“PE police say they won't be commenting on claims by alleged Jayde Panayiotou hitman that he was beaten up by cops.”

However, the State Prosecutor told Maughan that Vumazonke allegedly tried to run away from police during his arrest - "that may have something to do with bruises".

Vumazonke spoke Afrikaans throughout his court appearance and he apparently has a previous conviction for robbery.
