Almost a month later, load shedding back on the cards

While Eskom does not expect to implement load shedding on Saturday, or about 27 days without blackouts, it might however be forced to load shed in the coming few days.

Acting Eskom CEO Brian Molefe warned that while the power utility has managed to conduct maintenance of its power stations without switching off the lights, they, however, will not keep the lights on at all cost.

“If we have to do load shedding between the 4th and 12th of September, so be it. Maybe we won’t even do load shedding. But if UCLF (Unplanned Capability Loss Factor) goes to levels we had not anticipated then we will go into stage one. We are not keeping lights on at all cost, we are prioritising maintenance,” said Molefe.

The announcement comes when Statistics South Africa on Thursday revealed that electricity generated by the country had dropped by 3.3% for July compared to the same period last year.
