An Italian Affair

Col’Cacchio pizzeria has recently opened its doors at The Boardwalk and like all new restaurants in town, it had to be tried. Serving a wide selection of pizzas, pastas and salads; I found that there was something delectable to suit everyone.

Being part of a large group, I was also able to share a variety of menu favorites and although I usually go for the simpler pizzas, I was especially impressed with the choices I would not even normally have gone for.

The restaurant boasts over 50 different pizzas and we tried a wide range, so I will safely just say that an all-around favorite of the day was one of their vegetarian pizzas called, Green Genie. With roasted garlic, roasted butternut, roasted beetroot, shiitake mushroom, rocket, avocado, Italian parmesan, feta, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and a balsamic glaze; it is not difficult to imagine the taste explosion that this pizza created.

My personal favourite was the Foresta off their Banting menu; and while the base is entirely different to the other traditional crispy bases, this pizza was still tasty and had the added benefit of being the healthier choice.

Among the wide range of pastas, we tried the ‘Bacon and Pea’ pasta, which was creamy and delicious with mint and Italian parmesan and the ‘Manzo Ragu’. All of the pastas have the option of spaghetti, penne, linguini or gnocchi so for the Manzo Ragu, we opted for the gnocchi. With slow-cooked, shredded beef short rib in red wine sauce, this meal was rich, heart-warming and definitely a dish to order again.

The salads were not forgotten and I must mention that the Broccolo, a salad with rocket, broccoli, feta, avocado, spring onion, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds and an oriental dressing; was the perfect mix of crunch, flavor and lightness to compliment a rich meal.

Col’Cacchio caters for many dietary needs and has options for half-half pizzas, a banting selection and a wheat free pasta alternative. This made eating out with a group easy, with all tastes being catered for in one place.

The dessert was definitely the cherry on the top. From their melt-in-the-mouth chocolate brownies to their refreshing Meringa, which is a crushed meringue with berries, cream and berry coulis. My evening felt complete and I could not have asked for a better meal.

The service was friendly and the restaurant was relaxed, classy, warm and comfortable. I am happy to have tried and tested Col’Cacchio and I will definitely be visiting them again in the near future.
