JULY 14, 2016

The African National Congress (ANC) Caucus in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature on Thursday expressed support for the Legislature’s Annual commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day that is to be held on Friday in Lady Frere.

The event will be held at Freemantle Boys’ High School, where 100 pairs of school shoes and 120 blankets will be handed over to the community. In addition, the Members of Provincial Legislature will be painting the school.

ANC Chief Whip in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Mzoleli Mrara, said; "The significance of International Nelson Mandela day can never be over-emphasised, as each one of us is encouraged to carry out acts of goodwill in bettering the lives of those around us.

"With each act of kindness, we seek to emulate the life lessons shared by our gallant fighter – Nelson Mandela. We remember that from a very young age, he accepted the charge of joining the ranks of those who fiercely opposed the repressive apartheid regime. In the face of adversity, he dared death and fought for the liberation of the oppressed black people of South Africa.

"The ANC Caucus hereby wishes to rally the communities of Chris Hani Region behind this banner of selflessness and good will, and urges members of the public to attend this event in numbers and pledge time to making a difference in the lives of the citizens in our communities."
