ANC Eastern Cape sends condolences following PE old age home fire

The African National Congress (ANC) on Sunday, while commending the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality fire brigade for a speedy response, sent a condolence message to the families of those that were killed in an old age home fire in Port Elizabeth.

"This morning the ANC EC leadership while in  Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to do organisational work woke up with sad news that one building in Ekuphumleni Old Age Home in Zwide caught fire last night (Saturday).

"It is confirmed that three lives were lost. We would like to convey our message of condolences to the families that lost their loved ones," said ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary, Oscar Mabuyane in a statement.

"We commend the rapid response by NMM fire department that saved the section that caught fire, only few rooms were affected. As the leadership we also commend the community members who woke up in that rainy weather to help the elderly, they were the first to arrive in the home."

Mabuyane said that the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will work together and assist to bring normality to the home.
