ANC Eastern Cape welcomes arrest of duo for R4 million fraud

AUGUST 21, 2015

The African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday welcomed the arrest of two people for allegedly defrauding the OR Tambo District Municipality of more than R4-million "under the pretence of being service providers".

"We congratulate the move by the NPA that led to their arrest and now recovered more than 50% of the money stolen," said Oscar Mabuyane, ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary, in a statement.

"As the ANC, we will always support any investigation that lead to an arrest against corruption to show how serious we are in fighting corruption."

He said that the NPA is one the institutions that was established by government to fight such crimes of corruption.

"The matter of strengthning the fight against corruption is always our continuous discussion, as we are going to the NGC, it is part of priority matters for discussion," Mabuyane said.

"This sends a strong message to many, that corruption does not pay, it kills the hope of our poor people.

"We support and have confidence in government law enforcement agencies that they must work tirelessly to root out corruption in government and the society. They must recover every cent stolen in that municipality."
