ANC Nelson Mandela Bay shocked by kidnapping and murder of 7 year-old girl

The African National Congress (ANC) in Nelson Mandela Bay on Tuesday said that it has been "shocked" by the brutal killing of a young girl, Sonia Payi, whose body was found in a field in Struandale industrial area on Monday.

"The horrible death of the 7 year-old Sonia Payi – who was reported missing over the last weekend, before the police found her body in a field, brings into focus the desperate need for more visible policing and community involvement when it comes to the safety of our children," said Gift Ngqondi, ANC Regional Spokesperson, ANC Nelson Mandela Bay.

"The life of the little girl was cut short in the most barbaric way and that her rights had been violated.

"Children are supposed to be nurtured and taken care of. Children are the ones who are supposed to bury us. Children are meant to live a happy life."

Ngqondi said that the ANC in the Metro is not going to rest until those, "who do terrible things to our children are sent to rot in jail".

"We are appealing to the community to assist police in their investigations so that the perpetrator is arrested. The murderer lives in the community, someone knows him," he said.

"We send our deeply condolences to the Payi family, and they are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult and painful time."
