ANC welcomes ex-President’s comments

The African National Congress (ANC) has reportedly embraced comments made by former President Kgalema Motlanthe, over its current state.

Speaking in an interview over the weekend, Motlanthe blasted the ruling party for being made up of members “devoid of the political ability and consciousness required to maintain a united and non-racial society”, adding that its views on internal democracy had become “impaired”.

“The policies are in place, the constitution is in place, but if those in power can pick and choose when to adhere, when not to adhere then we have a very difficult situation,” he said.

In an entry on Politicsweb, ANC National Spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said Motlanthe has always been at the “forefront of raising pertinent and thought provoking questions” and that party welcomes “his forthrightness and willingness to provide leadership”.

“He remains a critical opinion maker on how we as the ANC should confront internal challenges on matters that if unattended could materialise as future problems,” Kodwa said.
