Announcement of tough new measures to curb decreasing municipal income postponed

OCTOBER 31, 2016

The press conference that was expected on Monday at the Port Elizabeth City Hall to announce "tough new measures" to curb the decline in municipal income has been postponed until further notice, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said.

The municipality is owed around R2 billion by local residents and businesses.

In an earlier statement, the municipality announced that the "tough new measures" would be made public by Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip.

The municipality had said that these measures would kick-in on Tuesday, 1 November.

They would affect both local household and business consumers.
