Another dramatic hijacking, chase and shootout leaves PE hijacker dead

A suspected armed hijacker died on Thursday afternoon after hijacking a vehicle fitted with a tracker and later got into a shootout with pursuing cops.

According to Port Elizabeth police, the hijacking took place at around 12:50 in the Motherwell area.

"The Port Elizabeth Flying Squad spotted the vehicle and gave chase.

"A person jumped out of the vehicle and fired shots at the police members," the police described.

"The SAPS returned fire and one suspect was fatally wounded."

The hijacked vehicle was recovered by the PE K9 Unit.

Two firearms were seized by police on the scene.

This is the incident of such nature after a hijacker died in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, following a high speed chase and shootout with police on Tuesday evening after he allegedly hijacked a VW Polo TSI in Matana Street, in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, on Tuesday morning.
