Armed escort for buses to the Cape flats

Reports say Golden Arrow buses with armed police escort were deployed this morning to transport commuters on the Cape Flats, in Cape Town where several buses were torched Monday morning.

The buses are operating along Vanguard Road outside Gugulethu and Manenberg.

At least seven buses were set on fire in nearby Nyanga and Philippi on Monday.

One person was killed and several bus drivers assaulted.

Police are investigating possible links to protests by taxi drivers in the area.

Meanwhile, small business owners who operate at the Nyanga Bus Terminus say they have also been affected.

These commuters and business owners say they hope the situation will normalise on Tuesday.
