Assistance to municipal crèches in George Municipality

SEPTEMBER 14, 2016

The Municipal Department of Social Services  donated much needed equipment to twenty Municipal crèches on Tuesday 13th September. Portfolio Councillor for Community Development and Libraries, Mercia Draghoender welcomed the teachers and children to the event. Nomzamo Playgroup entertained everyone with two songs performed with great gusto.

Executive Mayor Melvin Naik thanked the teaching staff for part they play in laying the foundations for  early childhood development and acknowledged the vital role played by pre-primary schools in this development.  “Access to basic social services is the right of all children, parents and other primary caregivers. Therefore, parents, communities, non-governmental organisations and all government departments which includes the Municipality have a role to play to ensure an integrated service to our children. Pre-primary level schools play a vital role

He added that many crèches today face challenges due to limited funding and donations and asked that the contributions received are used as a supporting tool to assist in the education process of our children.
