Air traffic at the Port Elizabeth International Airport was disrupted and passengers stranded on Monday morning as the runway was closed due to bad weather conditions.

Zandi Makasi of the Port Elizabeth Airport confirmed this saying: “There haven’t been any incoming or outgoing planes this morning due to the rain. We cannot operate.”

The heavy rain in the Nelson Mandela Bay began on Sunday night and has since been raining non-stop.

“The passengers are just sitting here hoping that the weather will clear up and they can continue with their journeys,” said Makasi.
