Baywest Mall improving security, but also consider where you park

SEPTEMBER 5, 2015

Amid concerns about security after several people reported losing their cars to thieves at the Baywest Mall since its opening in May, the Mall on Thursday moved to assure customers that their security was its top priority - however pay attention to where you park your vehicle.

In response, to a post by local resident, Leoni Salie, on a local community Facebook page, that his car vanished at the Mall's parking area early this week, Baywest Mall said that, while unfortunate, the event happened beyond its control perimeter.

"The vehicle which was stolen was not parked in the Baywest Mall secure parking facility at the time of theft, but was parked outside of Baywest Mall’s control, in an external gravel area which is not covered by the Mall's Security measures," the Mall said in the response.

"As such, the theft was beyond prevention by any of the security facilities in place at Baywest Mall.

"We therefore confirm that neither the Mall, its Security Provider nor any other Baywest Mall representatives can take responsibility for what has occurred."

Baywest still said they were taking initiative in preventing future incidents.

"We assure the public that security at the Mall is a top priority, where prior to this incident, we had commenced with the installation of a further 32 CCTV cameras in the designated, secure parking facilities, for which shoppers and tenants are required to pay a very reasonable fee to utilise."
