Beach resorts for the hottest summer in history

BY GRAEME LUND - MARCH 11, 2016

This summer has been one of the hottest on record and there is no reason to doubt that Easter will be any cooler. There is no better place to be in the Eastern Cape on a hot summer’s day than on the beach. We, at Home Food and Travel, looked into where best to enjoy your beach holiday and chatted to owners and managers of some of the great resorts to find out what they have to offer.

Anita Lennox, Manager at Cape St Francis Resort says; “We are a true all-rounder offering luxury beach villas, family cottages as well as affordable apartments. On the business end, our conference venues can hold up to 300 delegates and if a beach wedding is what you are after, think no further. We have two swimming pools, a great restaurant and easy access to the beach.”  Call: 042 298 0054  •  Email: [email protected]

Kob Inn Beach Resort on the Wild Coast is more than a typical beach side resort and Violet van Zyl, the owner, has this to say; “This is a resort that is situated right on the sea.  Not close, not near, but right on the sea.  Our activities include horse-riding, canoeing, fishing and just doing nothing! We offer full board with an amazing seafood buffet on Saturdays. There are three Wild Coast hotels that have been winners in the TripAdvisor 2015 Travelers’ Choice Award, and we are one of them!”  Call: 047 499 0011  •  Email: [email protected]

The Haga Haga Hotel has been family owned for over 40 years and we pride ourselves on offering a hands-on personalised service”. Call: 043 841 1670  •  Email: [email protected]

The Willows Resort & Conference Centre, is a family’s dream destination with rugged, rocky outcrops and endless rock pools to discover and explore. “The small, private beaches with tidal pools are perfect for swimming and lazing in the sun. We are close enough for out-of-towners to enjoy PE, and far enough for locals to break-away,” says Herman Nell, the General Manager. Call: 041 396 2000  •  Email: [email protected]

Ocean View Hotel, in Coffee Bay, has a beautiful setting. “Ian and I have been in the Hospitality Industry for the past 35 odd years along the Wild Coast. We love the Eastern Cape and have plied our trade along the Transkei coast for many years. We work as a team and find it so rewarding building up old resorts and bringing them back to life again. We find it so pleasurable being able to walk to work each morning and not having to travel long distances. Both our sons grew up in the Transkei and after completing their university studies are both in the hospitality industry. We have been so fortunate in the places we have worked, as we have found the staff absolutely amazing, and worked in some of the most beautiful places along the very special coastline”, says Lyn Crawford, the owner, about her and her husband’s passion for beach resorts. Call: 047 5752005  •  Email: [email protected]
