Beast’s injury not serious - Everitt

BY NATALI IVERSON - FEBRUARY 17, 2015

Cell C Sharks assistant coach, Sean Everitt, has said that star loose-head prop, Tendai "Beast" Mtawarira’s injury is not as serious as initially thought.

Beast was taken off the field during the Sharks Super Rugby match against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs on Saturday afternoon, due to severe pain in his calf, with many making an early diagnosis of a severe injury.

On Monday morning, he underwent scans that revealed that he did not have a tear in his calf muscle, but only a strain.

Everitt has said that even though Beast would be side-lined for a few weeks, he is happy that it is not a long term injury.

“Losing an international is a big loss to any team, obviously we aren’t happy about losing Beast, but there’s nothing we can do, we have to move on,” Everitt said.

“Fortunately we do have a big squad with a lot of depth in that position, so Dale Chadwick steps up and we have a youngster who did very well last year in Thomas du Toit. So it’s an opportunity for them to put their hands up,” he added.

The Sharks will be hosting the Xerox Golden Lions at Kings Park on Saturday.
