Bench must make an impact - Coetzee
Western Province Stormers coach, Allister Coetzee has named his team who will be taking on the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday, saying that he wants the bench to make a big impact in the game.
Coetzee has made a few changes to the Stormers for this match.
Centre, Juan de Jongh will be leading the squad after being side-lined with an ankle injury last week.
Nizaam Carr has been placed in the No.8 position in place of Duane Vermeulen, who has been given a break, in order to follow the South African Rugby Union’s (SARU) request to rest Springbok players.
Stormer’s vice-captain, Schalk Burger has been placed at flanker beside Michael Rhodes, who will be making his debut for the Cape side.
Siya Kolisi has been placed on the bench this week, alongside prop Vincent Koch, lock Jean Kleyn and centre/wing Huw Jones.
"We have kept continuity in our starting team, whilst also selecting a bench that can make an impact, in what we believe is the best possible Stormers team to take on the Waratahs this week,” Coetzee said on the Stormers’ official website.
"Vincent Koch has done really well and has shown that he can perform at this level, but this is a good time to give Frans Malherbe a start.”
"If you look at our bench, the likes of Bongi Mbonambi, Oli Kebble, Vince, Jean Kleyn and Siya Kolisi can all make an impact as replacements, which gives us plenty of options and is part of our thinking,” he added.
15 Cheslin Kolbe, 14 Kobus van Wyk, 13 Juan de Jongh (captain), 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Dillyn Leyds, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Nizaam Carr, 7 Michael Rhodes, 6 Schalk Burger, 5 Manuel Carizza, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Scarra Ntubeni, 1 Steven Kitshoff
16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Oli Kebble, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Jean Kleyn, 20 Siya Kolisi, 21 Louis Schreuder, 22 Kurt Coleman, 23 Huw Jones
