Bethelsdorp teens arrested for fatal shooting that also wounded pregnant woman

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17 years old, are expected in court on Friday after they were arrested on Wednesday afternoon by the Eastern Cape Provincial Gang Investigation Unit (formerly known as the Gang Task Team), following a fatal shooting in Bethelsdorp on Tuesday. 

It is alleged that on Tuesday, at about 20:20, Damian Erasmus (18) and a 24-year-old female were shot at a house in Lingilhle Street Bloemendal.

According to police information, the 24 year old female, who is pregnant, entered the house through the back door.

"As she did so, four unknown men kicked the front door open and started firing shots into the house. Erasmus was fatally injured while the 24-year-old female sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach," said police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"Two other people in the house escaped injury.  All four people resided at the house."

On Wednesday, police followed up on information and a 17-year-old suspect was arrested at a house in Guava Street, in Jacksonville, and another 16-year-old suspect was arrested at a house in Barberry Drive Ext 31, Bethelsdorp.

"Police also confiscated a white Toyota Tazz at an abandoned house in Wallflower Street Bethelsdorp," said Colonel Naidu.

"The teenagers are detained on charges of murder and attempted and will appear at the Nerina House Juvenile court on Friday.   More arrests are expected."
