Blasting on the N2 between Dutywa and Mthatha

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) would like to notify travellers that controlled blasting is scheduled to take place between Dutywa and Mthatha this week.

  • On Tuesday, 29 November 2016 blasting will take place at approximately 1pm.
  • On Wednesday, 30 November 2016, blasting will take place at approximately 2pm.
  • On Thursday, 1 December 2016, blasting will take place at approximately 2pm.

The blast will take place at approximately 38.52 KM from Dutywa when travelling towards Mthatha.

The road will be closed during the blast for a maximum of two hours.

Alternative routes include:

Motorists travelling in an Easterly direction towards Mthatha may consider exiting the N2 at Ndabakazi onto the R409 towards Ngqamakwe/ Tsomo or drive on the R408 at Dutywa towards Ngcobo. Both routes link to the R61 and then re-join the N2 in Mthatha.

Motorists driving in a Westerly direction towards East London may use the R61 when in Mthatha and then link back to the N2 via either R408 after Ngcobo or R409 towards Tsomo. The alternative route is 60 kilometers longer and may add approximately 40 minutes to your trip between East London and Mthatha.

“Motorists are asked to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes and to use caution when making use of the road,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region’s Manager.
