BREAKING NEWS: Great fare found at local News Cafe
After visiting a client on the Port Elizabeth beachfront one cold and rainy April morning, a work colleague and I decided to warm ourselves up with a decent lunch at the News Cafe.
It had been a while since I had visited Sandy Zoetmulder’s franchise at The Boardwalk and we arrived to find Christy, our friendly waitress, who showed us to a cosy inside table and promptly took our drinks order. While ambient background music played, I took in the attention to detail that was evident in the decor – a subtlety that can so easily be overlooked in this funky restaurant.
We ordered two burgers - a Mushroom and Feta, complete with Dijon mustard, red onion and rocket for my colleague and a Mexican, complete with guacamole, lettuce, vibe chilli sauce, crushed nachos, mozzarella and jalapeño for me. Both were served with chips and coleslaw.
Being a part of a franchise has its advantages and News Cafe definitely has the edge when it comes to style, sophistication and a creative menu of food and drinks. Their monthly promotions are also fun and exciting and always include prizes sponsored by big name suppliers. Daily Cocktail specials run between 5 and 7pm and you can always pop in for a R25 Early Bird breakfast served daily from 9-11am or after your Saturday morning Parkrun.
Our meals arrived, again highlighting the difference being part of a national group can make. They were expertly presented and tasted better than we could have imagined. After enjoying every bite, we settled our bill of just R220 (including a tip) and made our way out into the cold, re-fuelled and ready to tackle the rest of the day!
News Cafe offers a great atmosphere, food, drinks and value for money – be sure to pay them a visit when you are at the beachfront or The Boardwalk. For enquiries, you can contact them on 041 583 6660 or email [email protected].
