Bridge banner calls for Zuma to go

A bridge in Pietermaritzburg has garnered a lot of attention following the displaying of a black banner with the words “Hoot!! Zuma must Go” on it, with the ‘a’ resembling the symbol for anarchy.

According to Beeld, the banner, mounted on the Mayor’s Walk Bridge, had allegedly been erected by two men during the night, although no identities had yet been made.

The paper reports that at least one motorist stopped and hooted for a long time before eventually setting off.

“People are struggling. I am disappointed. Zuma is not doing anything and should resign. But whoever hung up this poster has a lot of courage,” local resident, Adam Steyn, told the paper while taking a picture.

“I voted for him in 2009, but I don't like him anymore. We are tired of empty promises,” motorist Lucky Kwela said. He also criticised Zuma for the upgrades at his private Nkandla residence, before telling the paper, “Maybe Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will do better. But Zuma must go.”

Another motorist, Mandy Spenceley added that although she is not pleased with Zuma, she found the banner disrespectful. No comment as yet been made by authorities.
