Brief on selection of new Public Protector set for Wednesday

BY CHARL BOSCH - JUNE 22, 2016

Parliament’s ad-hoc committee has confirmed it would divulge more information on the selection of a new Public Protector at a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

“The briefing will, among other things, give an update on the number of applications and nominations received thus far. The briefing will also explain the public involvement process to be followed in making objections and comments on proposed candidates,” a statement from Parliament read.

It also stated that South Africans would have until June 24 to nominate their preferred candidate, who will take over when current Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s seven year term ends in October.
