Buffalo City Municipality officials hand themselves over to the HAWKS over corruption

Four officials of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality were on Friday granted bail after they have handed themselves over to the Hawks in East London on the same day in connection with a case of corruption at the municipality.

"The Financial Officer at the municipality Visvanathan Pillay (54), also known as Vincent; Former Speaker, Luleka Ethel Ndzele (51); Supply Chain Manager, Thembelani Prideaux Sali (45), and Matthew Moodley were released on R2 500 bail each when they appeared at the East London Magistrates’ Court on Friday," said Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

"It is alleged that a certain company had submitted an invoice to Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality for unauthorised services and the money was paid without following proper procurement processes.

"The suspects’ case was postponed to 24 April 2017 for further investigations."
