Buffalo City residents dump rubbish to protest refuse collection delays

FEBRUARY 22, 2016

Refuse collection woes at the Buffalo City Municipality continue to pile up as the city struggles with the availability of waste trucks.

On Sunday, irate residents of Gonubie dumped hundreds of putrid refuse bags at municipal offices in the suburb, apparently in response to delayed rubbish collection over a period of a few weeks.

Facebook user, Donovan Brown, posted: "Gonubie residents today taking action after weeks of no refuse removal, dumping bags at municipal offices,"

Brown's pictures posted on the social media site showed piles of rubbish dumped outside a municipal building.

"The Solid Waste Department has been having a challenge of the availability of trucks due to mechanical problems." was the only response to News24 from Buffalo City Municipality spokesperson Thandy Matebese.
