A 41 year-old man is expected in the Butterworth Magistrates’ Court on Monday after he was arrested on Sunday by local police for possession of four unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested early on Sunday morning at Ngobozi Locality, Toleni Village, Butterworth, after Msobomvu police received a tip off about a man with an arsenal of firearms.

According to Msobomvu police the recovered firearms were three shot guns, with 22 rounds of ammunition, and a 9mm Norinco pistol, with six rounds of ammunition.

“The firearms will be circulated to establish the lawful owners. The firearms will also be sent for ballistic tests to verify if they were not used in the commission of crime around Butterworth,” said Butterworth police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added Butterworth SAPS Cluster Commander congratulated Msobomvu police for their wonderful job.
